The Board of Education met on Monday, January 12 for its Regular Monthly Meeting at the Robert Procunier Administration Center.
The Board heard the following from Superintendent Dr. Jeff Stawick:
- The District received a demand to bargain notification from the ESP Union Leadership. Their current contract expires in June 2026.
- Board member and past president Darcy Nendza has resigned from the Board. Dr. Stawick thanked her for her many years of service. The Board of Education is seeking qualified residents to be considered for appointment to fill the vacancy. The individual appointed will serve through the April 2027 Board of Education election. A detailed list of requirements is available on the District website.
- Cook County notified the District that 40% of the property taxes billed on behalf of the District for tax year 2024 was distributed to us.
- A list of surplus materials is being compiled by the Buildings and Grounds Department. The Board will be provided with a list of materials for approval at the February meeting.
The Board also heard the following:
- Kevin Bissell of Cherry Bekaert, LLP presented an overview of the District 146 Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2025.
- A parent of Kruse and CMS students spoke about student discipline practices at Central Middle School.
- The President of the Teachers Union gave an update on the happenings at each of the schools before the break and since returning.
- Buildings and Grounds Director Matt Shanahan shared a request from the South Cook Intermediate Service Center and District architect DLA regarding 10-year Life Safety Surveys submitted to ISBE. The Board will be asked to take action at the Regular February Board meeting.
- Heard from Mr. Shanahan about facilities projects being planned for summer 2026 including renovations at CMS, HVAC Building Automation System (BAS) upgrades at CMS, and roof restorations at Fierke and Kruse. The Board will be asked to approve the projects at the February meeting.
The Board took the following action at the meeting:
- Approved Policy Changes that were submitted as information at the December meeting.
The Board met in Closed Session to discuss collective bargaining, personnel matters, and Board vacancy matters.
