The District 146 Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, September 8 at Kruse Education Center in Orland Park. Prior to the meeting, the Board of Education attended the Kruse PTO Ice Cream Social and passed out treats to Kruse families.
The meeting began with the Superintendent’s Report. In it, Dr. Stawick expressed that the Board values the hard work of District 146 teachers and detailed the District’s last teacher’s contract proposal. He explained that the Board is trying to find a balance between the taxpayers who want great schools and low taxes, and the teachers who want to be paid more.
Following the Superintendent’s report, a number of public comments were made by individuals expressing their views on the District’s contract negotiations with the Teachers Union.
During the Union Reports, Teacher’s Union President Eileen Von Borstel, encouraged the Board to listen to what the union members are saying they need.
Karen Lyons, president of the ESP Union, told the Board there are still a few open paraprofessional positions. She encouraged any interested parties to apply. She also stated the District’s Human Resources Department has been a great asset in filling open paraprofessional positions.
The Board took the following action at the meeting:
- Approved the Budget for Fiscal Year 2026. Jeff Charleston presented the preliminary budget to the Board at the August meeting. A public Budget Hearing was held immediately prior to this month's Board Meeting.
- Approved an overnight trip for the CMS Band. The director would like to surprise the students, so the details of the trip are not being announced publicly at this time.
The Board met in Closed Session to discuss collective bargaining.
Towards the end of the meeting, the live stream video was interrupted due to a technical issue. Sound continued, but there was no picture. We are sorry for this inconvenience.
The minutes of the September meeting will be available on
BoardDocs once approved by the Board of Education at the next meeting.
