Art
Club –
Students will learn an extensive variety of skills and
techniques used to create individual and group-based
artwork. Students will explore many different mediums
such as drawing, painting, ceramics, and printmaking.

Book
Café - Do you
love finding out about new books? Do you enjoy talking
about books? Then this club is for you! The Book Café
will be held Thursdays after school for any student who
wants to share in the enjoyment of books! Ms.

Breakfast with Books
is an opportunity for students and teachers to meet
twice a month to discuss books. We meet on Friday
mornings in the Media Center @ 7:10am. Each meeting

Chess
Club - Are you
skilled in the game of chess, or have a desire to learn
the game? Then this club is for you! Join us for chess
games every other week, with a tournament crowning the

Chorus
- Twister
Chorus is available to all students regardless of
experience. We will rehearse twice a week, before
school, from 6:50 – 7:40am. There will be two main
performances throughout the year, with a possibility of
other school and community performances. Students may
also choose to participate in Solo and Ensemble

Declamation Team -
Students will engage in
activities and exercises related to theater. These
activities will emphasize skills such as listening,
speaking, peer collaboration, creative thinking and
planning. There will be a SWIC Declamation Contest,
where we compete against other schools in our
conference, on April 21st, 2010. Ms.

Ecology Club
runs in both the fall and the spring. This club is for
students who have a keen interest in working with their
hands outside in the courtyard gardens and around the
school building. Students will be planting bulbs and
plants, collecting seed pods, pulling weeds, and
learning how to prep the gardens for the fall and spring

Environmental Club
(new!)
- The
Environmental Club will work to help the students of
Central Middle School make eco-friendly choices in their
daily lives and promote awareness of the environmental

Fitness Club
(new!)
– Central
Middle School students of all ability levels are
encouraged to participate. Fitness Club will provide
opportunities for students to engage in fun activities
to promote health and fitness. Comfortable clothes and
gym shoes are required.

Geography Club
will involve hands-on activities to help students become
more familiar with not only our country, but our world

Guitar Club
(new!)
– This club
would be an opportunity for students who wish to learn
to play guitar, or are experienced players, to get
together every week and learn how to play the music they
are interested in. No experience necessary. However,
those who wish to participate would benefit by having
their own guitar or bass, as the school cannot provide
guitars for each student.

Intramurals -- Morning -
Intramurals is a great
way to exercise and play games with your friends in a
fun environment. We will be playing basketball,
football, soccer, and other sports throughout the year.
We meet on most Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the
year from 7:10 to 7:40am. Gym shoes are required.

Intramurals -- Soccer

- The outdoor
soccer intramural club will give students the chance to
play soccer after school with their classmates. Shin
guards, comfortable clothing and gym shoes are a
requirement. Boys and girls intramurals will be run

Japanese Language Club
(new!)
- This club is an opportunity for students to learn the
basics of the Japanese language. Students will focus on
the spoken language used in everyday life. They will
also have an opportunity to learn about Japanese culture
and history through the study of language.

Mathletes -
During Mathletes, we will practice and discuss math
problems in order to challenge Central math students as
well as prepare them for the Spring 2010 SWIC Mathletes
Contest, to be held on March 31, 2010.

Musical - The
school musical (Pirates of Penzance) is open to
all students regardless of experience. All students
will be required to prepare an audition, including a
song and brief dialog. Audition materials will be
provided after our November informational meeting.
Auditions will be held on Dec. 8th, 9th,
and 10th. Rehearsals will be from 2:40 –
5pm. Cast members are required to participate in the
public performances of the Spring Musical, which will be
held on Friday, April 9th @ 6:30pm and
Saturday, April 10th @ 2pm. We usually
perform a dress rehearsal for the student body, as
well. Parent volunteers would be appreciated in the

Pre-Game Game Room –
This is a place where
students can come between 2:40 – 4:00pm on home game
days. Students will be able to socialize or play board
games with their grade level peers, and will then be
escorted to the gym when the sporting event begins. For
safety reasons, we prefer that students stay at school
on game days and not leave campus to frequent local
businesses. Many sponsors are involved, but these are

Scrabble Club -
Players will learn the
game of Scrabble and improve their skills by learning
new word building strategies along with increasing their

Spanish Club -
Students will receive
extra knowledge on the Spanish cultures. They will
complete crafts and listen to authentic music. We may
try to insert dance into the Spanish Club program this

Stock
Market Club

- Students
will learn and understand the stock market, and the
costs and benefits involved in investing, decision
making, and other related economic concepts. The Stock
Market Club has cross-curricular benefits and can help
participants learn important life skills such as
budgeting, decision-making, and personal finance.

club will introduce students to the various things our
technology can do, including podcasting, movie making,

Newspaper Club

- Newspaper
Club is an opportunity for students to use their writing
skills to publish a school newspaper. Using a variety
of resources, participants will learn about different
formats, styles and features of producing a newspaper.
School events, community activities, editorials,
interviews and sports reporting will be included in each

Video
Game Club
(new!) -
This club is
designed to give students a chance to relax and
socialize after school. Students will be able to play
some of their favorite (school appropriate) games with
their friends, and make new friends. Peer interaction
is an essential part of educational and emotional
growth, and video games are a common platform to
facilitate this.

Yearbook - The
students would create the Central yearbook over the
course of the year. They will be using technology with
teacher assistance to complete this project. They will
also be working on management skills and organizational
skills associated with running an organization or small

Service Organizations whose
memberships are criteria based:

National Jr. Honor Society –
NJHS is not a club, but
an organization established to recognize outstanding
middle level students. More than just an honor roll,
NJHS serves to honor those students who have
demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship,
Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship. An
induction ceremony is held each spring to induct 7th
and 8th graders who are selected based on the
chapter guidelines. Consideration for membership begins
with the second semester of 6th grade and
continues through 8th grade. Potential NJHS
members are selected, sent an invitation to apply (mid
school year), must complete the application process, and
complete the necessary community service hours before
being inducted on May 3rd, 2010. Meeting

Student Council -
Student Council is not a
club, but a service organization. Members are given an
opportunity to provide service to both the school and
the community. Student Council Members are elected by
the student body. Meeting dates for those elected
