Full-Day Kindergarten Facilities Options
The Administration and Board of Education at District 146 has been considering possible facility options for the Full-Day Kindergarten program anticipated for the fall of 2018.
There are currently three options being considered. The District has been hosting forums to discuss these options with our families and community members. Below you will find a brief summary of each option.
When all Community Forums are complete, considerations compiled from each Forum will be posted.
Option 1: Construction would occur at Fierke, Fulton, Kruse, and Memorial to add enough classroom space to house Pre-K through 5th grade students.
Up-Front Cost: $13,790,000
Recurring Costs: $291,200
Option 2: A new pod would be constructed at CMS. Fifth grade students would be moved from the elementary schools to the new self-contained pod at CMS. This would make space available for Pre-K through 4th grade at each elementary.
Up-Front Cost: $9,400,000
Recurring Costs: $360,500 - $376,800
Option 3: There are two possibilities within Option 3. One is to renovate/add on to the Administration Center to house the Pre-Kindergarten Program. The other is to construct a new Pre-Kindergarten Center at the Sandidge site.
Up-Front Cost: $12 - $13 million (Remodeling Ad Center for Pre-K and building a new Ad Center at Sandidge)
Up-Front Cost to build a Pre-K Center at Sandidge is unknown, but less.
Recurring Costs: $303,500 - $478,040
Upcoming Community Forums
District 146 will be hosting a series of Community Forums to discuss the facility options for the Full-Day Kindergarten program.
Each elementary school will host a Community Forum:
Fierke Education Center: Monday, April 17
Memorial School: Tuesday, April 18
Families from Central Middle School may attend any of the above forums. Any parents from Fulton or Kruse who were unable to attend forums at their home school may also attend any of the remaining forums.
All events will start at 7 p.m. and be held in the schools' Media Centers. Childcare will be available and refreshments will be served.
For special accommodations, including ADA or translation services, please contact the District at (708) 614-4500.
